River Bistro - Detroit

So the trip to Detroit started not great, with my “original” choice for restaurant being overcrowded, then sold out as I sat and waited to order. Enter the savior of my hangry - River Bistro.

Located at 18456 Grand River, in Detroit, River Bistro serves up classic Caribbean staples, with Chef Max’s twist!

Because I arrived at 3 pm , they were still serving from the Brunch Menu, which has staples like Honey Spiced Chicken and Banana nut waffles, Steak and Eggs, and Avocado toast with a poached egg, to name a few .

I ended up wit the Shrimp and Grits- smoked cheddar grits with a “Caribbean gravy”. That gravy was the coconut shrimp curry sauce from their dinner menu, and it does contain pork. The flavor was pretty good, not overwhelming but really tasty. If when you think brunch, you also think DRINKS, River Bistro is BYOB with a $5 corking fee! I ordered a Raspberry Mango lemonade that was really good, and would be a great chaser for the bottle you decide to bring in :)

I was slightly salty that dinner wasn’t yet available, cus I would have ordered some take-out to try some of the dinner entrees like the Jerk Chicken Wing “Main Thing” with a few “Side Chic” options like fried Brussels with bacon, or the “Return of the Mac-and cheese”, or some plantains, or yams. or all of the above, (don’t judge). The whole menu looked bomb, and they had a good list of “classic” desserts like cheese cake, pound cake, and a chef’s special for the week, peach cobbler.

The front room seats about 26 people, maybe a few more, and is “community style”; They also have a chef’s table in back, where you can have a customized seating in the kitchen, with prices ranging from $25-$50 per person. This meal is served “family style” as a heads up. They also had a DJ spinning good music until about 3 pm!

They are CLOSED Monday and Tuesday! Check them out, and tell them @theworldmoretraveled sent you!
