Burger-Burger-Burger Review

Chicago is known for many things- The Skyline, pizza, temperamental weather...but recently it has been known as home of TWO "Three Best Burgers in America" via Bon Appetit 2012 and 2017 respectively.  The Loyalist is the current December 2017 crown holder, and we reviewed that here.  We have been to the de-throned Au Cheval, whose perfectly over egg and thick cut maple bacon are legendary.  There is one place that I DOUBT you have heard of, the Cottage on Dixie.  Be sure to read the full review of that, here

Below, me and the Mr. talk about which of each were our personal preference, for ambiance, service, and of course, burger.  Since they were all around the same price, 13-16 respectively, that wasn't really up for comparison!

Best Ambiance

L:  To me, the winner is actually The Cottage on Dixie.  As much as I love the look and feel of the Loyalist, the cozy, brand new, but literally cabin like feel make it really homey.
M: The loyalist was chill.  It wasn't too busy and bustling like Au Cheval, but it wasn't so "dead and proper" as the Cottage. More like a bar, a good, chill vibe.

Best Service

M: Best service was the Cottage.  The waitress was attentive and around, she wrote down the burger description for us, without us asking her to.
L: I agree.  It was Valentine's Day and getting sort of busy, and she did go out of her way to get the description.  She also gave us a good beer run down and a description of the desserts and her honest opinion.
M:  And she had personality.  She laughed and joked with us.  She was cool.

Best Burger

L:  For me, even with all the hoopla of the Loyalist and that of Au Cheval...the Cottage was winning!  That salty brisket blend.  That fresh bun.  the fact that they make everything in house couldn't be beat.  Now it didn't look like much at all, but that flavor was it.
M:  HMMMMM, the BEST Burger? Crickets * Crickets - Yeah, it was probably the cottage.  It wasa cooked perfectly, that cheese melted onto the bun put it over the top.  Yeah *nods head*  The bun was on POINT

Best Overall

L: So best overall?  What do you say.  If you could only pick one place to go, which one
M:  My best overall- the Loyalist.  The vibe.  The burger, the shot and beer cant be beat for me.  You are down town so you get the environment; its damn near a perfect night.
L:  See for me its about the food.  Like yeah I prob give The Loyalist the second runner up, but to ME its all about that burger at The Cottage.  Combined with the service at this visit, the beer list, and the literal building we are in, its really easy for me.  Plus not a long ride back home for once LOL.

So we have a difference in opinion...(whats new? HA HA).  He says The Loyalist, and I cannot blame him.  I say The Cottage, and I'm sure he will never turn that burger down.  Have you had a chance to try any or all of the places?  Whats your take?  Comment below!  Share and subscribe!
