10 Places to Visit in Barcelona

Barcelona.

To me, the city is more a feeling than a place. It’s hard to escape the energy, the actual buzz of people on the move.

From markets to museums, tapas to architecture, it is a city with rich history, and a ton to do and explore! In our 2 visits, we are not close to experiencing all of it!

Here is a list of some of our favorites, and some of the suggested must-see places and attractions in Barcelona!

  1. Gaudi’s works for Catalan Modernist Architecture

    • Sagrada Familia, even if from just outside, is breathtaking. If you plan to go, look into getting tickets in advanced.

    • Casa Milá (La Pedrera), Gaudí’s last private residential design

    • Parc Güell, the garden complex where Gaudí honed his personal style

  2. Gracia

    • The Bohemian area of Barcelona sports boutique shops, cafes, and live music.

    • Try Placa del Sol at night for a true feel of the area.

    • We took a sketch tour around the area from AirBnB Experiences that was pretty cool!

  3. Las Ramblas, the divide between El Raval and El Gotíco

    • The locals may tell you to stay away from such a tourist trap, but you sort of have to go to one of the most famous streets in Barcelona full of live performers, souvenirs, and artists.

    • During the summer, Tasta Las Ramblas takes over with live cooking (and eating) from some of the country’s best chefs!

    • Don’t fall for the restaurant traps though, there are so many places to get good eats!

  4. La Boriqua Mercat

    • One of the most famous (and my favorite) markets, vendors on vendors offer all types of eats and wares

    • Stop and get some fresh fruit or a smoothie, or some fresh seafood and charcuterie!

  5. Bunker del Caramel

    • A great spot to get 360 degree views of the city

    • Pack some of your favorite bites that you picked up from the market, and some Cava, the Catalonian version of champagne, and have a sunset picnic!

  6. Camp Nou

    • Even if you don’t watch football, (soccer) you know Messi, and this is his home turf and one of the most famous soccer teams around

    • Check out an FC Barcelona match among THOUSANDS of other people, and cheer for the home team!

    • The stadium is dry, so be sure to BYOB (or buy a beer from one of the random people selling them outside LOL)

  7. Arco de Trionfo

    • Created for the 1888 gateway to the Universal Exhibition, the square is a great place for a photo op, street performers, and people watching!

  8. Costa Brava

    • If you like to jump off of things and into the water, this is a place for you! Cliff diving and coasteering are happening!

  9. Street Art Hunting

    • While there is Gaudi architecture and museums for the pro stuff, Barcelona has its own artists that just so happen to use buildings as canvases

    • Check out Jardines de las Tres Chimeneas, a skate park with some cool tagging!

  10. Waikiki Hidden Beach

    • About 40 minutes south of the city, get some sun

    • You can also stay local at La Barceloneta

This list doesn’t really scratch the surface of all that there is to do! The Gothic Quarter, Picasso museum, night life, restaurants, bars - you can definitely fill your agenda with awesomeness!
